Big Kahuna Race Report - Cush cleans up!

The Big Kahuna Memorial Race is an annual event held by Al Horne in memory of his long time friend and longtime supporter of the RC community, simply known as "The Big Kahuna".  This year's race was held at Leisure Hours Raceway, and Cush was scheduled to run 5 classes- Stock SC, Mod SC, Mod ST, Mod Buggy, and 4wd Buggy.
His Yaiba Spec B4.2, T4.2, B44.2 and pair of Tresrey Spec DESC210's were locked in all weekend as he took TQ honors in Stock SC, Mod ST, and 4wd Buggy.  He qualified 2nd in Mod ST, missing TQ on a tie breaker, and sat 7th in Mod Buggy after struggling to get clean runs in qualifying though he showed he had the pace to run up front.

Stock SC was first of the mains, and he quickly checked out, nearly lapping the field.  The Tresrey Spec DESC210 was dialed, posting average laps faster than anyone else's best lap, and a fast lap nearly 2 seconds better than anyone in the class.

The next main was Mod ST, and it was a battle from the start between Cush, Factory Track's driver Mikey Wells, and AE driver Brian "Mellow" Chmielowicz.  The top 3 changed positions throughout the first half of the race, but then Cush was able to take the lead and hold it til the end, bringing home the win with his Yaiba T4.2 equipped with a Tresrey GT2.0 and Tresrey 8.5.

Mod SC was next, and Cush's Tresrey DESC210 was the truck to beat all weekend, but a broken arm in Q4 had him fall to 2nd on the grid.  Within a lap of the tone he grabbed the lead and never looked back.  The truck was flawless and his lines were crisp and consistent, which allowed him to build over a half lap lead by the end of the race.

The next race, and most highly anticipated, was 4wd buggy where Cush and his Yaiba B44.2 were dialed in all weekend as he set TQ in each of the four rounds of qualifying, and his Tresrey GT2.0 and Tresrey 7.5 provided endless power throughout each run.  The main was no different as he ran a perfect race, nearly putting a lap on the field before backing off and bringing it home safely for the win.

The final main of the day was 2wd buggy, and starting from the 7th spot Cush had some work to do.  A rough start saw him get taken out by another car and put him to last place, but he wheeled his Yaiba B4.2 through the field and caught up to finish 3rd, completing an excellent weekend with all podium finishes.

A huge thanks go out to everyone who helps make his racing efforts possible:  Yaiba Racing, Tresrey, TrakPower Speed Equipment, Futaba, BFast RC Performance, Strictly RC, Kain Paints, and Live RC.
